The Academic lyceum of the Karshi Institute of Engineering and Economics is located in Karshi, the center of Kashkadarya Province, 558 km from Tashkent, in the southern foothills of the ancient caravan route from Samarkand and Bukhara to Afghanistan and India. The city, known in ancient times as
Nakhshab and
Nasaf, has always attracted conquerors due to its geographical location, fertile soils and mild climate. Hence it was conquered over the centuries by Alexander the Great, the Arabs and the Mongols.
The lyceum was founded in 2000. Currently, more than 600 pupils attend the school. Of the 55 teachers employed, four teach German language. For more than twenty years the lyceum has been providing a sound education in physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, philology and linguistics, as well as in the social sciences and humanities.
In the upper secondary school, German is taught as a first and second foreign language. An essential part of the school's profile are the numerous clubs of the lyceum; "We learn Russian", "Young Physicists", "Young Chemists", "Mathematicians", "Step by Step (English)", "German Studies", "Top Musicians" as well as sports clubs for soccer, volleyball, table tennis, chess and checkers.
The Academic lyceum is one of the best lyceums in Uzbekistan, which is evident from the number of graduates who later study at the most prestigious universities in Uzbekistan. It is also one of the best lyceums in the Republic of Uzbekistan in terms of overall educational quality. A German teacher at the school was awarded a scholarship for the development of language teaching in Uzbekistan and was Teacher of the Year 2017.
Since 2013, the lyceum has been part of the PASCH (Partner Schools of the Future) initiative. Teachers and students actively participate in international exchange programmes with countries such as Germany, Russia, and France. The school also maintains cooperation and friendship relations with the branch of the Goethe-Institute in Tashkent.
